Coffee…As Good As A “Good Morning Wakeup” As People Think?
Coffee is infamous for being able to wake you up in the morning, no matter how tired you are before you start drinking it.
But is it really true, or are you just imagining that it’s working?
According to a study I read a few days ago (to be honest I can’t give you the source because I lost it)…you’re just imagining it!
Here’s What It Said…
Basically, the article showed that if you’re a daily coffee drinker – you’re not getting the same stimulus as a person who isn’t a regular coffee drinker would get.
In fact, it’s hardly even doing anything to your body in a physical way. The only reason you feel more awake is either because 1) you’re expecting it to wake you up (e.g. expectancy theory) or 2) you’re just waking up from being up longer by the time you’re done drinking the coffee!
Let me get a little more detailed on #2.
Do a test for yourself.
(first I should say this is all assuming you’re a daily coffee drinker)
Tomorrow when you get up, don’t drink coffee. Do you notice that you start waking up right around the same time you’d being waking up when you had coffee?
For example if you wake up at 8 but don’t really “get awake” until 8:30 after you’ve had coffee, see if that holds true when you DON’T have coffee.
I think you’ll be surprised at the results
Now another thing I should say is that if caffeine DOES have an impact on your body. It will wake you up, but not unless you’re giving it something it isn’t used to handling.
It’s just like exercising actually…
Keep doing the same exercise everyday and after a few weeks – you get no additional benefit.
Keep drinking the same coffee everyday and once your body gets used to it – you won’t get the energy boost anymore.
So do yourself a favor and test this out and see if it works for you.
Personally, I don’t get an energy boost unless I have more than 1 cup (I usually only have 1 cup). Maybe it depends on the person – I have no idea. This is just a little theory I want to throw out there and give you something to try!
Then just come back here with the results – I’m interested to see if this works for you!
