Ever Have A “Junk Food Hangover”?
If you’re the type of person who eats healthy nearly all the time and hardly ever eats junk food, this post by one of my favorite bloggers, Rusty Moore, is something you’re going to love.
In the post he talks about a “Junk Food Hangover” which is essentially the sick feeling you get if you suddenly eat really greasy and/or unhealthy food after going for awhile with eating strictly healthy food.
Now I won’t give away his post because it’s something you MUST read if you’re the kind of person who gets tired after eating a lot of carbs or eating pretty much any kind of high glycemic food…so head on over to http://fitnessblackbook.com/diet-tips/why-a-junk-food-hangover-is-a-good-sign/ and leave a comment for Rusty and let him know what you think!
Why Experts Aren’t Always Right
We’ve been led to believe that just because someone has credentials – it automatically means they know what they’re talking about. A lot of people also won’t trust anybody who doesn’t have credentials.
But is that how things should be?
Listen, just because somebody has credentials doesn’t mean a thing.
What if the information they got to get those credentials was false?
What if they got those credentials through a shady company only looking for money and the expertise was hardly above the knowledge level of an average fitness enthusiast?
These are things you really need to think about not only when it comes to fitness, but also in real life.
Let me give you an example.
Dietitians and personal trainers are led to believe that if you dgo more than 3 hours without food your metabolism will drop, eating less calories results in a loss of muscle, etc. etc.
But as we know, those things aren’t true.
So – dietitians are wrong.
Yet many people will believe what a dietitian says even if I walked over to them with the cold hard facts and plopped it right in front of their face (this is pretending I’m not a C.P.T.)
Why?
Because in our society, we’re conditioned to blindly follow the advice of people with letters after their name.
Sure, in most cases people with credentials have more knowledge than the average person, but it doesn’t mean they know everything!
I don’t care what a doctor tells me about how I’m feeling. Only I know how I feel and if I think he/she is wrong – they probably are.
Do you feel the same way?
To me, we rely too much on letters after a persons name instead of relying on our own instincts and listening to our bodies.
I think if more people listened to their own body and what they truly felt, we’d be a much healthier society and getting in shape would become much easier!
Let me know your comments below. Do you feel the same way as I do, or do you think credentials mean more than I’m giving them credit for?
Want To Get In Shape For The Summer? Here’s How
So I was talking to my fiancee today and she sounded very excited. She quickly got to telling me that she was hiring a personal trainer to go to her house and help her workout.
You’re probably thinking “well can’t you just help her”. And the answer is, absolutely, however she wants someone to actually push her through the workout. And of course she doesn’t want me standing over her shoulder barking orders at her…I don’t think that would be very good for the relationship
And I got to thinking….
You know, most people spend as much money on a personal trainer as they would for an entire month using my online personal training program.
Literally!
Luckily for her she found someone that’s incredibly cheap (only $20 per hour). That actually shocked me considering most personal trainers charge a minimum of $40 per hour.
But either way…even at $20 per hour 3 times per week…that’s $60 per week or $240 per month.
Now let’s say you found a personal trainer who was that cheap. You’d be spending a minimum of $240 per month, when you could become part of my online personal training program for just $47 per month.
In fact, I just had someone so serious about getting in great shape that they actually bought an entire YEAR’S worth of personal training from me…for just $300 for the year.
That’s hardly over what you’d be spending per month, even for the cheapest personal trainer you could find!
So do me (and yourself) a favor today.
Head on over to www.JeremyReevesCoaching.com and see what I can give you. My normally monthly amount is just $47 per month for a new workout each month, but the longer term you invest in, the more you save.
Going for a year..you save just about 50% off my normal fees! (and you wonder why that’s the most popular option)
Because I realize the economy is tough and I like to help out as much as I can.
So how about it?
Would you like to get in shape for the summer? Picking out a workout for yourself is probably one of the hardest parts of staying in shape because unless you’re trained in it – you really don’t know what works and what doesn’t.
So head on over to www.JeremyReevesCoaching.com and pick which option is best for you. Everything obviously comes with a 100% money-back guarantee so if for any reason you don’t think it’s worth every penny, just send me an email and you’ll get every penny back.
See you there!
The Tale Of The Supermarket Cyclops
I walked down the aisle of a local supermarket, picking up a few healthy items to eat during the week. I turn up the dairy aisle trying not to be tempted by the fabulous displays of food that would plant fat on my body faster than sitting around eating bon-bons all day watching TV.
And then it happened…
As I rounded the corner, it stared me straight in the eye.
The Supermarket Cyclops!
With her cart literally filled to the top with nothing but desserts and fried food, she looked at me and my cart filled with nothing but healthy, nutritious meals and scurried down the aisle, picking up even more dessert and fried foods as she went.
Did she notice frozen vegetables, the Weight Watchers meals or the frozen bags of chicken? Of course not, because she’s the supermarket cyclops!
Her eyes are only set on one thing – junk food.
And her body showed it.
Weighing an easy 275lbs. at 5′4, her arteries no doubt blocked like a clogged drain, she cared about nothing else but getting that sugar-high.
All she wanted was to go home, put the frozen, fried chicken fingers in the microwave and dish out a huge serving of ice cream and Klondike bars.
And off she went into the abyss, her cart full of fried food and desserts…never to be seen again.
The end.
Ok so maybe I’m not the best fiction storyteller in the world, but I think you get my point. This actually happened to me a few weeks ago and I just wanted to point something out.
When I go to the supermarket, I can literally tell you who’s fat or not fat just by seeing their cart. It doesn’t even matter if the person is standing anywhere near it or not – I don’t have to see them.
It’s kind of funny to me that people “can’t understand” why they’re overweight, yet their shopping carts are filled with 50% food that’s going to make them fatter.
Or in this lady’s case – 100%! I’m not joking about that either. She easily $60 worth of ice cream, frozen candy bars, Klondike bars (and similar things – I’m not familiar with the names) and fried foods.
The only thing besides desserts and fried food she had was a bag of cat food. That’s it.
And she probably goes home wondering why she’s 150 pounds overweight!
Now for most people it’s not this extreme, but the next time you’re in the grocery store, just take a look for yourself. You’ll notice that a skinny person is going to have at least 75% healthy foods in their cart, while overweight people will have 75% unhealthy foods in there cart.
Hmm…
Is it really that easy? Umm, yes – it is!
Fill your cart with healthy, low calorie/high nutrient density foods and exercise = you’ll be lean.
Fill your cart with fried foods, desserts, highly processed foods and refined sugars and (exercise or not) = you’ll be fat.
I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t really sound like rocket science to me.
Sure there are a few things you can do to “boost” your fat loss or to drop those last 10 pounds, but if you’re 50 pounds overweight the only thing you should even be thinking about is…eat healthy foods and exercise.
Trust me, the weight will come off. Don’t make the “I have bad genes” excuse because in the real world, about 1 in 500-1000 people honestly have genes that are making them fat no matter what they do.
Yet 65/100 Americans are overweight.
To me..that just doesn’t add up right.
What Happens When You Stop Being “Healthy”
It’s one of my philosophies in fitness that every once in awhile, your body simply needs a break.
This is especially important if you’re doing workouts that are very intense and demanding on your body, such as High Intensity Interval Training or things like Tabata Intervals.
You might be getting enough recovery after exercising, but is that really enough?
My answer is – no!
Every 3 months, I take a full week off of exercising.
Now you may have heard that only a week from exercising can reduce your strength levels by 30%. Well in my experience, that’s a giant crock of bull. I’ve NEVER experienced any strength loss whatsoever in a week’s time, and many times I actually will see a nice boost in strength after good recovery week.
(Just take make an excuse that you need a recovery week off if you’re simply being lazy. Trust me, you can tell when you need a week off, so don’t overdo it!)
So Let Me Explain My Own Recovery Week
I like to take a week off from exercising once every 3 months. At the end of 3 months I can literally feel my mind starting to become less motivated to workout, but once that recovery week is up – I’m roaring and ready to go.
I take the full week off from exercising AND from fasting because as you know, fasting while not doing resistance training is a great setup for muscle loss and I’d rather not lose all my hard-earned muscle
I still try to stay active and not sit on my butt all day, plus stretch more than usual…so don’t let this be an excuse to simply be lazy everyday for a week!
But I think the biggest thing I noticed and what is actually one of the biggest benefits you get to see is that you get to remember what it’s like when you’re not exercising and fasting…
Without Exercising And Fasting, I Feel Gross!
Between exercising and fasting, I’m doing my body a lot of good. I’m 100% full of energy all day long and very, very rarely ever need to take naps – even if I get just a few hours of sleep.
But what happens when you take a week off?
It sucks!

This is what I feel like when I'm not exercising and fasting!
I’m on Day 5 of my week off, and I have to admit, I feel like crap. I would safely say that my energy levels are EASILY 30-50% lower than usual. I have my afternoon crashes again where I need to take a nap around 3-4, and I seem to need more sleep than usual.
And even though it’s kind of uncomfortable feeling like this for 3-4 days (it takes a few days before your body starts to feel “energy-less” again) it’s great for self-monitoring because I get to see what it would feel like if I wasn’t healthy.
It also makes me feel a little more sympathetic to those people who aren’t actively trying to stay healthy – even though it’s their fault anyway. I can understand why they’re tired and lazy all the time, because I know I want to be!
Overall, It’s All Good
In the end, taking an exercising recovery week is a great thing for your body. Even though you might feel a little down, your body gets to recoup and when you start back up again, you’ll be ready to take on the world. I gotta say, I can’t wait to work out again. I’m incredibly excited for it and I can pretty much guarantee you now that I’ll break my previous lifts.
This month I’ll be training like a bodybuilder and splitting my workouts up. I hate working out like that (I like to old-school kind of stuff with sandbags, tire flipping and stuff like that), but it’s time for a change for me.
Just remember, don’t overdo it. If you’re training like a madman like I do – I suggest taking a week off every 3 months or so to let your mind and muscles calm down a bit. If you’re just putzing along on a treadmill and doing easy workouts, you probably don’t even need a break.
Just make sure that after the week is over you get RIGHT BACK into working out because for the person who doesn’t geniunely enjoy working out – sometimes it’s hard to get back into it.
So what are you experiences with this? Do you feel the same as I do, or don’t you agree at all?
Let me know!
UPDATE: I just got done working out for the first time in a week about 10 minutes ago. I just want to prove my point of this post.
During this week off, I stopped fasting, exercising AND taking creatine. So according to what most people say, I pretty much should have lost a bunch of strength.
But today I just beat every single one of my records, plus I ended up working out for an extra 15 minutes without even realizing it (I was trying out a new circuit that would whoop pretty much anybody’s butt – and added it to the end of my workout).
So what does that show?
It shows that my body NEEDED that week of rest! I came back roaring and ready to go, and felt stronger and had more endurance than ever. I’m interested to see what would have happened if I had creatine in my system. I’ll try that next time.
