Why The Lack Of Healthy Snacks For Children Is Just The Beginning Of The Problem

February 27, 2009 · Filed Under Philosophies On Fitness, Random Stuff · Comment

In my opinion, healthy snacks for children in todays world is an absolute necessity. The obesity rate among children is absolutely disgusting, and instead of shutting my mouth like everybody else, I’m going to come right out and say it.

It’s the parents fault!

Listen, excluding some rare circumstance where a child has some kind of weird metabolic disorder like an under active thyroid, if you kid is obese – kids should NOT be overweight.

It’s pathetic how many kids are obese today, and it’s because instead of parents teaching them how they should be eating and preparing healthy snacks for the children, they’re having sleepovers and feeding them chips, soda, pizza, ice cream, and all other fattening foods.

And like you probably know, there’s nothing wrong with that in moderation, but come on now. Kids metabolisms are usually sky-high and when I was a kid, in my entire school (a total of 6 grades) I bet there was less than 10 obese children in the entire school.

Now 30% of kids are!

So What’s The Problem?

I think the main problem today is that parents don’t have enough control over their children. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone into a restaurant and seen kids misbehaving incredibly bad, yet their parents don’t say a word.

God help me if I ever did that when I was a kid!

This lack of control then carries over into the health aspect of these kids lives as well. If they want a cookie, they get it. If  they don’t want to eat healthy snacks that children should be eating, they don’t have to eat it. If they want to sit home on their butts and play Playstation all night instead of going outside and playing like a kid should be doing, nobody says a word!

So is this your child? Are they running all over you with no control? If so, start by giving the children healthy snacks to eat. Gain your control back just with that. Then move on to bigger things.

You don’t want your children to grow up obese and lazy right? Then start doing something NOW while their young to cement into their minds that being healthy is important, and that healthy snacks for children is a GOOD thing!

Another thing you can try to do is to get your kids actively involved in working out. I bet if they worked out literally right along side of you, they would start to see exercising as a good thing and maybe you can show them that it’s fun and something everybody should be doing.

No matter what your strategy, it’s sad how many children today are obese and it needs to be stopped. Healthy snacks for children are just the beginning of the struggle to getting them healthy and fit, but that struggle needs to start today!

Are Bodyweight Workouts For Pansies?

February 26, 2009 · Filed Under Bodyweight Exercises · Comment

One of the most common things I hear from people trying to get in shape and get stronger is that bodyweight workouts are only for people not strong enough to lift “real” weights, or for people into martial arts who don’t care about muscle size and only want endurance and speed.

But nothing could be further from the truth!

There are some bodyweight workouts (a lot actually) that are MUCH harder than the majority of weightlifting exercises out there.

Take the 1 armed pushup for example.

Can you do 1?

Most people can’t! Hell, most people can’t even do regular pushups!

Bodyweight workouts are fantastic for those people who either can’t afford the extra $50/month to go to a gym, don’t have time to waste driving there and back, or simply like working out at their own home and don’t have to deal with the hassles of being at the gym.

I know I hate it – I haven’t been to a gym in a very long time…and the last time I went the only reason I ended up going was because one of my buddies wanted to go.

What I’m trying to get at is that bodyweight workouts are VERY effective, even for highly advanced athletes.

1 armed pushups, weighted pullups, 1 legged squats, rope climbing, etc. These are all awesome bodyweight exercises that would push the limits of even advanced trainees – yet most people don’t do them.

In my opinion it’s because they’re afraid they won’t be able to do them. Go take a look around in any gym around the country and you’ll see people doing lat pulldowns and 1 armed rows instead of the much better exercise – the pullup.

You’ll see people doing leg extensions instead of 1 legged squats.

You’ll see people doing chest flyes instead of 1 armed pushups.

But what’s the point?

Don’t you want to be able to move your body around like it should be moved? In my opinion you should be trying to get as strong as possible with regards to your own bodyweight – it just makes you feel so much more “free” and light.

I think people are too focused on their external appearances when they should be focused more on doing bodyweight exercises and working those stabilizer muscles (which make you much stronger anyway).

You live your life moving your bodyweight around all day, so why not do exercises that helps you make it easier all day long?

Do yourself a favor and throw a month straight of bodyweight exercises into your routine. You’ll work muscles you have never worked before, and by doing bodyweight exercises I can pretty much guarantee you’ll go through any strength plateau you hit using weights!

Do Alcohol And Fat Loss Mix?

February 23, 2009 · Filed Under Fast Fat Loss, Philosophies On Fitness · Comment

All the time I hear people talking about alcohol and fat loss and how you can pretty much NEVER drink alcohol if you want to lose weight and keep it off.

But is that really the way you want to live you life, stuck to certain rules and principles and guided by whether or not something is going to make you just a tiny little bit fatter?

I hope not!

Listen, I obviously care a lot about my weight and everything, but I would never compromise my life for it. If I want to go out and have a drink with my fiancee, I’m going to do it.

Now am I suggesting that you go out and get drunk 3 times per week, drinking 5-10 beers each time? Of course not!

But if you want the occasional drink, I don’t think alcohol and fat loss should even be talked about. Sure, it might give you extra calories and screw up your hormones a tad, but it’s not like you’re going to have 1-2 beers and all of a sudden lose 2% of your muscle mass and gain 5 pounds of fat!

I personally have 1 or 2 beers a week, then usually 1 night out of the week or once every 2 weeks or so, I’ll have a few more. I don’t go crazy, I don’t drink 700 calorie drinks – I do it in moderation.

And if I get invited to a wedding or some kind of celebration, I’m not going to be that boring person in the back of the room who won’t even touch a drink because they’re afraid they’re going to gain 1 ounce of fat (to be clear, if you don’t want to drink because you just don’t want to, that’s fine, but don’t not have a drink once in awhile because you’re afraid you’re going to gain weight!).

Just please don’t take this as me saying it’s OK to get drunk and drink all the time. A glass or so per night is fine – it’s not going to kill you. It’s only 100-150 extra calories, and that’s SO easy to make up throughout the course of the day. If you know you’re going to be drinking alcohol at night and you’re worried about fat loss, just eat a little less during the day to make up for it.

It’s really as easy as that!

So do alcohol and fat loss mix in a diet program?

I think they do, you just have to be able to control yourself and not go out and get plastered every night of the week!

The Acai Berry – Myth Or Legend?

February 23, 2009 · Filed Under Diet Products · Comment

Are the acai berry benefits really what they say they are? How much research is there REALLY out there on the acai berry that they’re telling you about?

In my opinion, the acai berry is just another scam that’s trying to steal peoples money. Just like many other scams where people find out 1 or 2 good things about a certain food and claim it to be some kind of miracle food, the brazilian acai berry really isn’t anything special.

Think about this for a second.

All it really is, is a regular old berry that people found. I think they found it in Southern America which is why it’s called the Brazilian Acai Berry, but I’m not totally positive.

Do you honestly think some type of berry is going to make you lose fat? Of course not!

We know that if you eat less calories than you burn, that’s what causes fat. SO the only way this berry could help you lose fat is if you were already eating less calories than you were burning in any given day.

People claim this berry is a superfood, and while it might be incredibly healthy for you, like all other berries, you shouldn’t be paying tons of money for it.

When I looked up the statistics on how many antioxidants it had, what I found was that the acai berry “superfood” has more of certain antioxidants than other berries, but less of the other types of antioxidants.

If you didn’t know, there are a bunch of different antioxidants, each which do a different job…so keep that in mind when people claim to be selling something with huge amounts of antioxidants.

Unfortunately people fall for the acai berry diet or juice or powder or whatever it’s called, but I hope you won’t!

To further explain this, I made a video where speaking my mind about this subject. Take a look and let me know what you think!

Oh and by the way, in an upcoming post I’m going to reveal one of the biggest scams that I can pretty much guarantee you’ve seen!

The Best Weight Loss Diet – Revealed!

February 23, 2009 · Filed Under Philosophies On Fitness · Comment

Do you know what the best weight loss diet is for you? If not, you’re cutting yourself short and not getting the most benefit out of whatever diet and/or exercise program you’re currently doing.

Let me explain.

Take Amy and Bob.

They both want to lose 20 pounds in the next 3 months, but Amy is a stay at home mom who’s children go to Kindergarten everyday giving her a few spare hours during the afternoon, while Bob works 70 hours a week in the city and obviously has very little spare time.

Do you think they should both go on the same weight loss diet?

I don’t think so!

The Main Problem With The “Best” Weight Loss Diet

One of the main problems I see is that when picking out the best weight loss diet, people don’t stop to think about what the best option would be for them.

Some want an easy weight loss diet, some want one that only takes a few minutes per day, some want to build muscle while others want to simply lose fat, along with many other factors.

I encourage you to sit down and write out exactly what your goals are. Trust me, when you then start looking for the best weight loss diet for you, it’ll make it a lot easier to notice when one of them will give you all the things you want.

In my opinion it’s not a matter of having better or worse weight loss diets, it’s a matter of how well suited a particular program is for that person.

If you keep this in mind and go out and try to find the best weight loss diet for you, keeping in mind all your preferences, goals and aspirations, you’re not only going to have an easier time trying to actually find one, you’re going to have much more success when you finally get on a program because you’ll stick with it longer and enjoy it more!
